Volunteer Care
Volunteers are the hearts and hands of our services and vital to every one of Heritage Hospice’s programs. We have volunteers who assist with patient and family care, respite care, bereavement support, office work, public education, special events and fundraising projects.
The nature of hospice care requires a very special kind of volunteer; so all patient and family volunteers are screened and trained before they begin working with families. Heritage Hospice offers Volunteer Training courses each year for individuals 18 and older, who qualify. Each course is free of charge and teaches the necessary skills to care for patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness.
Our Volunteers:
Conduct friendly visits to support the entire family and reduce isolation
Give family caregivers a welcome break to run errands or just relax
Provide transportation assistance
Perform small homemaking tasks
Take care of the lawn
Run errands such as shopping, write letters,
or read to the patient
Provide hair care, manicures, or massages
Make phone calls during final hours of support.
