VitalStim

The Heritage Center is proud to say that we are one of the few rehab/nursing centers in the area that offer VitalStim as part of our swallowing rehabilitation program.  It is offered on an inpatient or an outpatient basis. VitalStim Therapy is a new patented therapy process and equipment system developed specifically to treat dysphagia. It re-educates the muscles necessary for the pharyngeal contraction. Clinical data shoes VitalStim to be a safe treatment, accelerate the recovery time from a restricted diet, and help patients achieve long-term results. In relation to improvement based on the swallowing function scale, electrical stimulation has a success rate of 98.4% compared to 32.7% for only thermal application.
